Ahead of the release of Part 2, the streaming service announced that Season 5 is in the works. The show's creators, Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate, teased that the finale − which will be feature-length − will shape the story for the next season.
However, Netflix also dropped the bombshell that it will be the final season of "Outer Banks." The creators released a letter to fans about the show ending.

"Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you'll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break."
