Derek Hough has more positive news about his wife Hayley Erbert Hough's recovery from an intracranial hematoma she suffered while the two were on tour earlier this month.
"With immense relief, gratitude and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned," Hough, 38, shared in an Instagram post Thursday. In the accompanying photo, Hough is seen resting his arms on the railing of a hospital bed.
The previous day, the "Dancing with the Stars" judge had explained in an Instagram Story that Erbert, 29, would be undergoing surgery "to replace a large portion of her skull that was removed during her craniectomy."
On Dec. 7, Hough shared on social media that after a Symphony of Dance tour performance his wife became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. There, "she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy."
An intracranial hematoma is a "collection of blood within the skull," according to the Mayo Clinic.
Hough believes things are looking up for his wife, whom he married only four months ago.
"We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community," Hough continued in his Instagram post Thursday. "Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for standing with us."
Last week, Hough described Erbert's recovery as "nothing short of a miracle" in an Instagram post.
The dozen dates left on their tour have been postponed due to Erbert's medical condition. Rescheduled dates have yet to be released; original tickets will be honored for these shows, according to Hough's website. Refunds can be obtained from the original point of purchase.
