OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi woman who oversaw a drug trafficking organization has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, federal prosecutors say.

Linda Hunt, 49, of Crowder, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Sharion Aycock. The sentencing came six months after Hunt pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine. She also was ordered to forfeit $20,000.

The U.S. attorney for northern Mississippi, Clay Joyner, said in a news release Wednesday that Hunt oversaw the trafficking organization that included other people who were charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs and drug distribution.

The news release listed 20 other people who have pleaded guilty and been sentenced since 2022 to methamphetamine distribution charges, money laundering or both.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics spent years working with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to investigate the drug trafficking, Joyner said.
